Innovative call for projects to bring together companies and the creative industry

Challenge: Stimulate creativity and competitiveness of local companies

Tango&Scan is a call for projects taking place every year in the City of Strasbourg in France with the aim of fostering cross-fertilisation collaborations.

The call for projects invites one participant from the creative and/or digital sector and one participant from a different economic sector to come together and develop innovative goods and services enhancing creativity and competitiveness of businesses. Every year, the theme of the call for projects changes. In 2024, the focus was on artificial intelligence (AI).

Resources needed

– Funding for the call for projects (in 2023, a total envelope of 250000€ was awarded, with maximum 20000€ per project)
– An organiser and a facilitator who can provide expertise and mentorship
– Promotional and marketing support for the calls for projects
– Support of the local authorities

Purpose of artistic intervention

The cross-sectoral collaboration between a stakeholder from the creative industry and one from a traditional or digital industry is intentionally structured to foster creativity. The inclusion of the creative sector ensures that the goods and services developed not only innovate but also carry a distinctly creative tone.

Positive impacts

This approach enhances the unique value added to traditional and digital industries, enriching the resulting products with both innovation and creative enrichment, which creates a distinctive feature for the companies benefitting from the support of Tango&Scan.

Replication

The call for project exists since 2018, with a different topic each year, which encourages the replication across sectors.
The approach could be replicated by other local authorities.
