Youth climate café

Free event led by the youth, for all young citizens to talk and display art about the climate crisis

Challenge: How do we ensure young people become ‘climate literate’? And when they are, how do we ensure that literacy does not become overwhelming ?

The CCC-Catapult project sought to co-create new knowledge through the ‘eyes and ears’ of children, teachers and other supporters of learning on how they situate and make sense of their lives in relation to climate complexity and cultural shifts.

In Bristol, researchers worked with members of the CCC-Catapult Youth Action Partnership group, UWE students, and members of the charity Baggator Nexus and Saaf Hava project to run a climate cafe and sharing event. The Climate Cafe was designed as a free event for everyone, led by the youth, for all young citizens to talk and display art about the climate crisis. It included the making of seed pots, the sharing of footage and films made by young citizens, and “sound+vision” activities in collaboration with trio artists, which displayed works done by young citizens together with the artists.
